The 20 hours of service learning required to graduate from the Honors Program is intended to help students understand the value of involvement in their communities and recognize the obligation of citizens to engage in civic activities. Each semester a seminar is offered for Honors students to assist in planning their service learning experience. Students must attend this seminar prior to beginning their project.  A variety of options is available for students to fulfill this requirement. The service learning experience is coordinated through the Community-Based Learning Office, COM 201, Marcia Shideler, Coordinator.  She can be reached at 913-469-8500, x 3570, or email shideler@jccc.edu

The service learning requirement is documented by writing a reflection paper and submitting it to the Honors Program Facilitator. Refer to Service Learning Reflection Paper Guidelines (PDF) for more details.
