Honors contracts are offered in a variety of classes as a means for students to gain more knowledge about specific topics covered in a course. For a listing of courses that offer contracts, visit Contract Courses
. Note that contract offerings may vary slightly from the listing. Please contact the Honors office (COM 201, x 2512) to verify that a contract is offered in a given semester. Fewer contracts are available during summer session and some are offered in either spring or fall.
Who Can Enroll
In order to enroll in a contract a student must have a cumulative 3.5 GPA and be enrolled in, or have just completed, the class associated with the contract. Students may enroll in the contract the same semester they take the class or they may enroll the semester immediately following completion of the class, i.e., spring following fall class enrollment, or summer or fall following spring class enrollment.
When to Enroll
Fall semester – Within first 3 weeks of the semester
Spring semester – Within first 3weeks of the semester
Summer session – First week of classes
How to Enroll in a Contract
To begin the process of enrolling in a contract, students should come to the Honors Program office in COM 201 to verify eligibility and pick up a copy of the contract description and interview form. The student then meets with the instructor/mentor for the contract and they agree to contract terms and schedule meeting dates during the semester. Once the completed and signed paperwork is returned to the honors office, the student is provided with a form that allows them to register and pay for the one-credit hour contract. The enrollment process must be completed during the first three weeks of the fall and spring semester, or the first week of summer session.
Note that the some instructors require that you complete the course prior to enrolling in the contract and some instructors require concurrent enrollment in the class and contract. Also, please note that the instructor assigned to teach the contract may not be the same instructor who teaches your section of the class.
Given the amount of work associated with contracts, it is generally advised that students enroll in one and no more than two contracts per semester.
