Purpose
The purpose of the Honors Program Scholarship is to assist students in completing requirements to graduate from the Honors Program. The intent of the scholarship is to help cover tuition, fees, and books. The requirements to complete the Honors Program are:
- Complete 4 one-credit hour honors contracts. Students may also enroll in Honors sections of courses that are 3 credit hours, such as Composition I, and receive 1 Honors contract credit.
- Complete 1 Honors Forum class (3 credit hours).
- Complete 1 interdisciplinary class.
- Complete a 20 hour JCCC Community-Based Learning project.
- Meet all requirements for a two-year degree with a cumulative 3.5 GPA.
Awards
Scholarship awards, with increments of $79 per credit hour, are based on the minimum enrollment of six credit hours and a maximum enrollment of 15 credit hours. Scholarship recipients may enroll in more than 15 credit hours, but the maximum scholarship per semester will be $1,185. The scholarship is awarded on a semester basis.
Scholarships
There are a variety of scholarships available for Honors students. Learn more about Honors scholarships.
In addition to the scholarships listed at the above links, there are two other types that might benefit JCCC Honors students.
- Transfer scholarships
Many four-year programs offer scholarships for transfer students. To explore these opportunities, please refer to the web site of the college or university where you are transferring or contact that institution direction.
- National scholarships
Honors students may qualify and are encouraged to apply for a number of national scholarships. Each scholarship has its own eligibility criteria, application and deadline. While competitive, these scholarships often open doors to admission at prestigious universities and help prepare students for advanced degrees. The links below provide a partial listing:
Renewal
Scholarship recipients will be funded for succeeding semesters if they maintain a minimum cumulative 3.5 GPA, have continuous enrolling of Honors work and successfully complete all of the course work attempted. The scholarship can cover a maximum of 52 semester hours or until the requirements for the Honors Program or graduation from the college is completed, whichever comes first. All scholarship recipients who drop a course are required to reapply for the scholarship for the following semester.
Number of Awards
The number of new scholarships awarded each semester is determined by the funds available, with first priority given to renewing scholarship recipients.
