2009-2010 Audition Application




JCCC utilizes a two-step audition process in order to select the Golden Girls.
                                                                  

Step 1: Traditional auditions are scheduled each spring during which potential team members will attend a clinic to learn dances, cheers, and technique that will be performed for a panel of qualified judges that day. Participants selected during this audition will be invited to attend Step 2 of the audition process. The number selected at this first audition is NOT limited.

The one day audition will take place in Gym 003 on JCCC’s campus.  The audition will consist of performing various required skills (please see required & recommended skills below), a cheer, a hip hop routine, and a jazz routine that will all be taught before the audition.  Other skills may be requested at the judge’s discretion.
Audition attire should include a fitted sports bra, hot shorts, and tights to match skin tone (No pants or capris please!). You should have a collegiate look to your make-up and it should be performance ready. Your hair must be pulled back into a pony tail or bun. Any shoes may be worn, no bare feet.

8 a.m. to 5 p.m
8:00 am Check in at Gym 125
8:30 am Meet and greet/Information about Golden Girls Dance Team
9:00 am Warm up/Stretching/Turn Class
9:30 am Technique class-across the floor
10:00 am Hip Hop and Jazz routine taught                                                        
11:00 am Individual practice time/Questions         
12:00 pm Auditions Begin                                                         
5:00 pm  Results of First Audition announced on Coach Erin Fine's Voice Mail.
Private/Video Auditions
All those interested in trying out for the Golden Girls Dance Team are encouraged to tryout in person at the annual May audition. Private in-person and/or Video auditions will also be accepted with prior approval for those with conflicts or travel restraints.  A private audition can be scheduled by email or phone.
Your DVD/VHS audition should include the following:
1. A short introduction including your name, where you are from, your dance experience, your proposed major, etc.
2. A 30-45 sec Hip Hop routine of your own choreography or something you have done with your team. Please, no camp routines.
3. A JAZZ routine of your own choreography or something you have done with your team.
4. Skills to showcase: Please include front, side, and back views of all skills unless otherwise noted
The DVD/VHS does not have to be done by a professional. The use of graphics and "snapshot" video pictures is not necessary. All you need is "a video camera, an open space in which to move, and you".
Please put your name, address and phone number on the DVD/VHS itself (not the cover).
Your videos will not be returned to you, but will be kept on file in the Student Life office for future reference.

Dance Style
The Golden Girls Dance Team performs a variety of styles ranging from jazz to hip-hop to pom. Most of the team has had former dance training or has been a member of a high school or all-star dance and/or cheer team. Please review the following recommended skills to see what may be included in spring auditions.

Those selected at the May audition will be invited to attend Step 2 of the audition process.

Step 2: Participants will attend summer AUDITION practices that will focus on technique, dances, cheers, and exercise and conditioning. At the end of these practices, final selection of the Team will occur. Participants selected for the Team will be invited to attend Fall/Spring practices.

 

*All those participants selected for the final Team are required to meet with the team’s guidance counselor, enroll in Fall classes, and sign a contract with the JCCC Dance Team before formal placement is awarded.
