Get involved!

Becoming involved with organizations and activities is an important part of your total educational experience. Participating can benefit both your personal and academic life.

The following are recognized clubs and organizations at JCCC that have the approval of the Student Senate and Student Life Office.

Academic Excellence Challenge Team (A.E.C.)
The Academic Excellence Team is made up of JCCC students who will be participating in various Quiz Bowl tournaments throughout the state of Kansas during the spring semester. Subjects covered at the tournaments will include Math, Science, Art, Music, Literature, Social Science and Current Affairs.

Active Health Coalition
The purpose of the Active Health Coalition is the advancement of modern health education and the improvement of living standards through seminars, evaluation of school lunch programs, publication of nutritional necessities, etc.

American Dental Hygienists Association
The Student American Dental Hygienists Association, a category of the American Dental Hygienists Association, is dedicated to the advancement and promotion of the dental hygiene profession. Membership is limited to students enrolled in the dental hygiene program.

American Institute of Graphic Arts - Student Chapter at JCCC
The purpose of the national and student chapters is to further excellence in communication design as a broadly defined discipline, strategic tool for business and cultural force. Student chapters bridge the gap between student life and professional practice through custom programming of events.

American Society of Interior Designers - Student Chapter
American Society of Interior Designers Student Chapter (ASID),is part of a professional organization that "is driven by a common love for design and committed to the belief that interior design, as a service to people, is a powerful, multi-faceted profession that can positively change people's lives". The student chapter of ASID is part of the Interior Design Student Association in the Interior Design Department.Additionally, students may receive and participate in ASID ICON,the Society's quarterly magazine, other newsletters, and internet news flashes; scholarships and grants for study abroad; ASID chapter events, seminars, workshops, STEP programs, CEUs and competitions; career days; Student Advisory Council; student representation at the professional chapter level; membership card; World of Work CD-ROM; ASID Online; RealWorld DesignWeek; ASID Connex, an ASID exclusive online networking community; upon graduation, discounts for allied membership; and ASID Advantage; and research reports.

Amigos sin Fronteras "Friends Without Borders"
Amigos sin Fronteras provides opportunities for interaction and cultural awareness between English-speaking and Spanish-speaking cultures. Amigos sin Fronteras tries to connect with other clubs and organizations for "intercambio" (Spanish/English language exchange) and cultural exchange.

Amnesty International, JCCC Chapter

Anime Club
The JCCC Anime Club strives to enlighten the student body and the community on Asian-style animation, art, and culture. Meetings will be held weekly and events planned include outings to area conventions.

Athletics
JCCC offers a wide range of intramural sports and athletics. A student can participate, develop skills and make friends. Intercollegiate athletic teams and individuals have brought the college and themselves national recognition.

Baha'i Club
The Baha'i Club's purpose is to bring people together in a spirit of friendship, promote the unity of mankind, and foster harmony among different racial and ethnic backgrounds We invite and welcome students to come and join us to discuss and act on issue of world peace, spiritually, and humanity in all frields Although Baha'i club is a religious association, it is open to anyone.

Biotechnology Club
The biotechnology club strives to initiate interaction between faculty and students to familiarize students with the biotechnology program, promote better understanding of biotechnology to the public area (area H.S. students, general public, etc.), and to be a resource for biotechnology students to help connect them to the industry in which we specialize. Its membership is open to all JCCC students and alumni.

Campus Crusade for Christ
Campus Crusade for Christ's purpose is to serve interested students at JCCC by creating an environment in which to grow spiritually, helping students share their faith and study the Bible, and providing quality fellowship.

Campus Greens
Campus Greens is a national student-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to building a broad-based movement for radical democracy on college campuses. Campus Greens works with the 10 key values of the Green Party. It provides members with support and resources to become effective agents of social change based on ecology, social justice and nonviolence.

Campus Ledger
The Campus Ledger provides members of the college community with a free and open forum for news and commentary concerning campus life, and helps student journalists in the development and practice of sound journalism principles.

Capoiera Club
Capoiera is a kind of Brazilian sport that combines martial arts with dance. The Capoiera Club will teach Brazilian songs and instruments, the history and fundamentals of Capoeira and how to play Capoeira. The club will perform demonstrations and presentations and will participate in competitions.

Chef Apprentices of Kansas City
The purpose of the Chef Apprentices of Kansas City is to help better its members for their future as professional chefs. The club holds bake sales and other activities to raise money for nonprofit groups that help alleviate world hunger.

Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization
The JCCC CEO is a local chapter of the national Collegiate Entrepreneur's Organization. The purpose of the JCCC CEO is to support and encourage all JCCC students who are interested in developing entrepreneurial pursuits by providing social, educational, and networking opportunities beyond the classroom.

College Democrats
The College Democrats work to inform the JCCC student population about the important issues facing our country, encourage participation in our democracy, promote the values and ideals of the Democratic Party, and are involved in local/national campaign work. The College Democrats are affiliated with the Johnson County Democratic Central Committee, as well as the national group in Washington, D.C.

College Republicans
The College Republicans support the constitution of the United States and the state of Kansas, and all the principles, objectives and platforms of the U.S. and Kansas republican parties. The group seeks to provide students a means of obtaining practical political education with specific emphasis on the principles of the republican party, and to develop an intelligent, articulate and aggressive political club on campus.

Fashion Merchandising and Design Club
The purpose of the Fashion Merchandising and Design Club is to enhance student education, promote student activity in the fashion field and interact with the professional retail and design community.

Floriculture Club
The Floriculture Club offers interested students the opportunity to learn more about Floral Design that would mirror the operation of a retail flower shop. Students learn about marketing,merchandizing, buying and designing of floral products. The students get real experience while making positive connections between our college staff community and the faculty/student population.

Game Interest Group (G.I.G.)
In support the Game development Degree for JCCC and help answer student questions about the degree and form student run study groups on campus for game courses and explore and explain career options in the game industry and start a system of connections to aid in future careers and aide students in exploring Four year gaming college options and find other students who have a common interest and make friends in a comfortable and friendly environment.

Golden Girls
Recognized as a nationally ranked competitive team, the dance team travels to the NDA Collegiate Nationals in the spring to compete against other top 2-year and 4-year colleges across the nation. They attend all JCCC Cavalier basketball home games and may travel to post-season tournaments. The Graphic Design Club offers opportunities to network with the design industry and exchange information about employment possibilities and current events throughout the industry.

Horticultural Sciences Students Association (HSSA)
The HSSA was founded in FS 2006 by students interested in plants, horticultural sciences, sustainable landscapes and environmental stewardship, to cultivate their common interest. The membership is open to all students and individuals who have an interest in plants. The HSSA members increase their knowledge of plants and promote horticultural sciences by seeking insight from professionals in the field, organizing seminars, and community outreach events. The group participates in campus- wide recruitment events, campus-wide fund raising events such as dollars-for-scholars auction and other volunteer events on campus and off-campus. Their annual Christmas plant sale and Spring plant sale is a huge success and generates money for two scholarships in Horticultural Sciences. The Hospitality Management Club offers opportunities to network with new and veteran students, assist each other with homework, exchange information about employment possibilities and current events throughout the industry, continue professional education, and gain exposure to local industry leaders.

Interior Design Student Association (IDSA)
The Interior Design Student Association (IDSA) is an umbrella organization for three interior design related student organizations of ASID, IIDA, and NKBA. Its mission is to enhance student education, promote student activity in the interiors field and to interact with the professional community. A member of IDSA must be a student enrolled in the JCCC Interior Design Department and must also be a student member of at least one of the above professional design organizations. Activities include monthly meetings with a design related speaker or field trip, interaction with the professional design community via charitable design events, career days, regional meetings, and special events hosted by the studen organization. Members can look forward to becoming involved with an active group of students, competing for scholarships, learning more about the field of interior design, and creating friends whom they will be able to network with throughout their professional careers.

International Interior Design Association
International Interior Design Association Campus Center (IIDA) is part of a professional organization that is dedicated to helping student members have the tools necessary to have a successful interior design career. The student chapter of IIDA is part of the Interior Design Student Association in the Interior Design Department. Additionally, students can participate in IIDA's Annual International Mentoring Week; student sustainable design competition; Lloyd Hack Memorial Essay Competition; Campus Center activities; scholarship opportunities; continuing education programs; the Professional Chapter events. Students will receive timely biweekly updates about the profession through DesignMatters, as well as through IIDA's quarterly student newsletter Custom.

Intergalactic Misfits of Art and Sculpture
We the I.M.A.s. (Intergalactic Misfits of Art, sculpture) want to enlighten, excite, and educate the students of Johnson County Community College and the local art community about sculpture and our fine art program. We hope to enrich the sculpture department and the fine art program by helping to enhance our place in the community, both here at JCCC and the surrounding area. Our goal is to give additional opportunity to JCCC sculpture students by exposing them to experiences that will prepare them for a long career in the art field.

International Club
The International Club brings together students from the U.S. and other countries for social and educational activities. Our goals include: supporting for new students, hosting activities that increase awareness about American and world cultures, serving our community and fundraising for scholarships and club events. Intervarsity Christian Fellowship
Intervarsity Christian Fellowship is an interdenominational organization comprising of more than 800 colleges worldwide. IVCF provides a range of different services, from prayer meetings that allow students to share needs, to small group Bible studies that are geared to help young people become close friends. The discussions focus on the Bible and Christian living.

Invisible Children
Invisible Children improves the quality of life for war-affected children by providing access to quality education, enhanced learning environments, and innovative economic opportunities for the community. Invisible children is not offering a handout, but instead, a life-long investment in vulnerable youth. We provide them with quality education and valuable life skills that enable them to take responsibility for their future and the future of their country. To achieve this goal community, we also promote cross-cultural education, and continuously look for ways we can better work together in defending the oppressed and promoting peace.

Kappa Beta Delta
The purpose of Kappa Beta Delta is to encourage and recognize scholarship and accomplishments among students in the following academic areas: accounting, business administration, business entrepreneurship, business office technology, economics, marketing and management, and paralegal. Kappa Beta Delta also encourages and promotes aspirations toward personal and professional improvement.

Kansas Sikh East-West Awareness
The mission of K-SEWA is to promote awareness of Sikhs and Sikhism in the community and to provide opportunities for Sikhs and non-Sikhs to share and learn about Sikhism, Sikh history, art, music and other related cultural activities.

Lambda Alpha Epsilon
Lambda Alpha Epsilon (LAE) is the fraternal name for the American Criminal Justice Association, a national association comprised of 221 active subordinate chapters located throughout the United States. Most of them are located in colleges and universities that offer criminal justice programs of study, including Johnson County Community College’s Zeta Rho Omega chapter. The objectives of the association are to improve criminal justice learning through educational activities; foster professionalism in law enforcement personnel and agencies; promote academic and public awareness of criminal justice issues; and encourage high standards of ethical conduct and professional training within the criminal justice field.

L.U.N.A.- Latinos United Now and Always
L.U.N.A. welcomes all students and we strongly believe that only through communication, education and understanding between students will there be solidarity and love for other cultures. Mind's Eye Literary Club
Mind's Eye is JCCC's student literary magazine, designed to give students the opportunity to submit art, photography, fiction, poetry, and essays for publication and prizes. Students may also serve as editors for the magazine, reading submissions during the fall semester and deciding which manuscripts to publish.

Mixed Ethnicities and Heritage Alliances
The Mixed Ethnicities and Heritage Alliance strives to establish a community atmosphere within the multi-racial population and raise awareness within our society.

Mobile Intensive Care Technician Student Association
The Mobile Intensive Care Technician Student Association provides an informative and educational forum to increase awareness of the changing dynamics of the EMS field and to keep abreast of activities affecting EMS education at JCCC. MICTSA is open to all JCCC students, with emphasis on students currently enrolled in the MICT program.

Model United Nations Club
The primary purpose of the United Nations Club is to obtain a better understanding of global affairs. The emphasis will be on promoting understanding and support for the United Nations among JCCC students. Events include attending model United Nations conferences and supporting the local UNA/USA chapter.

Muslim Students Association
The Muslim Students Association promotes unity and joint action among Muslim students, arranges and holds congregational prayers and Islamic religious festivals at appropriate times, promotes friendly relations between Muslims and non-Muslim students, and is involved in the intercultural activities, thus promoting intercultural understanding among students.

National Kitchen and Bath Association Student Chapter (NKBA)
This is a professional organization that helps students plan their future as they explore exciting career opportunities in the kitchen and bath industry. The student chapter of NKBA is part of the Interior Design Student Association in the Interior Design Department. Additionally, student members of NKBA have access to the NKBA Job and Internship Bank, scholarship and contest opportunities, networking opportunities, significantly reduced rates to KBIS (Kitchen and Bath Industry Show), and reduced rates on NKBA professional books. The JCCC Interior Design Program is an NKBA Accredited Program. NKBA Accredited Program graduates will be considered eligible to take the AKBD exam without meeting the one-year minimum experience requirement if they: Graduated from a certificate/diploma/degree program that is accredited by the National Kitchen & Bath Association; Completed a 160-hour internship in the kitchen/bath industry (some schools require additional hours); and submitted a completed and signed Graduation Verification Form to the NKBA.

Organization of Black Collegians
The Organization of Black Collegians is a forum for students of all ethnicities, especially those who are African, African-American or from the Diaspora, to meet, develop camaraderie and to share talents, culture and energies with other students and the community. The Paramedic Student Association is made up of currently enrolled students in JCCC's MICT program. It is engaged in fund-raising activities and public service activities promoting the field of emergency medical care.

Phi Theta Kappa
The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage scholarship, leadership, and service among two-year college students. Its members enter into an intellectual and cultural fellowship that extends beyond the JCCC campus to regional and national networks. In achieving these goals, members of Phi Theta Kappa enrich themselves, their communities and society.

Philosophy Club
The Philosophy Club's purpose is to read, present and discuss philosophical issues. We aim to both deepen and broaden our members' knowledge and understanding of philosophy.

Pre-Med Club
The Pre-Med Club is designed to assist those interested in pursuing a career in medicine. This club provides a way for individuals to interact and gain the experience needed to be successful in a medical profession. Some activities planned include visits to universities, meeting with advisors, group volunteer work, and more to come. The Pre-Med Club is always looking for new members.

Pre-Pharmacy Club
The Pre-Pharmacy Club provides students who have special interests with the knowledge and direction they need to succeed. Members are prepared for the admission process to Pharmacy school and ideas and concerns are shared. The organization seeks to provide students with the tools to make them a competitive applicant. Goals will be met through monthly meetings and the opportunity to hear distinguished guest speakers.

Project Improv
If you are creative and attentive in your social interactions, you are an improviser. Project Improv will teach you to extend the fun you have off stage into an onstage form. In doing so, you will develop your performance skills and extend your social and comedic abilities in new and interesting ways. No experience required. Psi Beta
Psi Beta provides an opportunity to discover the exciting happenings in the field of Psychology. This organization sponsors speakers, conducts fundraisers, travels to out of town conferences and much more! Psi Beta is a friendly group and is open to all students with any interest in Psychology.

Queers and Allies is a place where those across the spectrum of gender identity and sexual orientation can come together for socializing, understanding and support. SANGAM - South Asian Students Club
SANGAM is a club that is open to all JCCC students, especially students of South Asian origin. The primary goal is to give an insight and understanding to JCCC students about south Asia and to bring them around for cultural activities.

Sigma Kappa Delta
Sigma Kappa Delta strives to recognize and reward outstanding achievement in English language and literature. The group provides cultural stimulation and promotes interest in English on two-year college campuses and in the communities they serve. Sigma Kappa Delta also fosters English in all aspects, including creative and critical writing; promotes good professional interaction among members; and exhibits high standards of academic achievement.

SKAI (Student Kansas Association of Interpreters)
Student Kansas Association of Interpreters (SKAI) is a student governed organization for students enrolled in the Interpreter Training program or the Sign Language certificate program. Bringing students together in this study can be a valuable and rewarding experience.

Student Environmental Alliance
The Student Environmental Alliance is dedicated to all issues concerning the care and preservation of the environment. Our primary purpose are educating, sponsoring, participating in, and creating a social atmosphere while promoting environmental awareness and sustainability within our campus community.

Student Nurses Association
The Student Nurses Association's purpose is to contribute to nursing education in order to provide the highest quality care, offer programs that represent the fundamental interests and concerns of nursing students, and aid in developing the whole person as a professional with responsibility for the health care of people from all walks of life. Activities include involvement in nursing education standards, legislative issues, community affairs and collaborative efforts with nursing and other allied health organizations.

Student Senate
The Student Senate provides government representation for the JCCC student body and allocates funds in support of student clubs and organizations. The senate is comprised of 25 senators-at-large and five executive board members. Elections for executive board positions take place in the spring semester, with senator elections occurring in the fall.

Turkish Students Association
The Turkish Students Association's goal is to promote peace, dialogue, tolerance, love, compassion and friendship through Turkish-themed activities.

The Twice Honorable Association of Collegiate Opportunists (T.H.A.C.O.)
The association will create and foster friendships though activities which combine storytelling, strategy and overcoming intellectual challenges. They will also participate in recreational games involving skill and imagination designed to broaden mindsets of members and promote acceptance of diverse peoples and viewpoints.

Ultimate Frisbee Club
The Ultimate Frisbee club invites everyone who enjoys meeting new people in a recreational environment to become a member of our group. We also welcome those who are more competitive and enjoy playing team sports. We promote a healthy mindset and a very social environment.

Veteran's Club
The Veteran's Club is an inclusive, non-partisan group that supports all JCCC students connected to military services (Active Duty, Veterans, Reserve, Guard, and their dependants). The Club's purpose is to provide networking, social activities, and opportunities to participate in community service and to further the advancement of Veterans in higher education.

Young Life
Young Life College is a non-denominational Christian ministry for college students. Students will participate in on-going localand regional leadership training sessions as well as Bible studies, fellowship activities and regional, national and international mission trips.
