A practical nurse is a vital member of the health care team, providing nursing care to selected patients under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician. The practical nurse uses technical knowledge and skills to meet the health needs of people in a variety of settings.  JCCC offers both Day and Evening/Weekend Practical Nursing Programs. Please choose from one of the programs below or the information links at the left.

The Day Practical Nursing Program is divided into two semesters and is completed in 10 months. The Practical Nursing Programs cover the following areas of nursing:

  • Fundamentals of Nursing
  • Medical/Surgical Nursing
  • Gerontological Nursing
  • Maternal/Child Nursing
  • Mental Health
  • Pharmacology

Significant features of the practical nurse programs include:

  • 550 hours of lab/clinical (8:1 instructor-student ratio)
  • Simulated experience with latest equipment 
  • Job opportunities in a variety of settings
  • Career mobility – articulation with all nursing programs in Kansas; once licensed, may apply for endorsement in other states

Tuition

The cost of the program (for Kansas Residents) is approximately $2,112 and for out-of-state students the cost is approx. $8,580. This price includes tuition and lab fees. Additional costs for insurance, textbooks, uniforms, criminal background check, physical exam, nursing pin supplies and the State Board exam are approximately $1,870. The practical nurse program is fully approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing and the Kansas State Board of Education.
