How do I get started?

Reading Level

A reading level must be documented for students who enroll in CNA, CMA and HHA.

For the CNA one of the following will be accepted:

  • Composition I course at an accredited US college with a "C" or better, or
  • ACT English Score of 19 or better, or
  • COMPASS score of 64 or higher (The COMPASS Test is a reading comprehension assessment. There is no charge for the test. It is offered on a walk-in basis at the JCCC Testing Services, 334 Student Center. A referral from Admissions, located in Student Center 319 is required.)

For CMA and HHA the COMPASS test is required.

Fill out a JCCC application www.jccc.edu/apply and get your referral before testing. You may register after you have successfully passed the test. Registration hours for Health Occupations courses are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Tuition and Books

Tuition is due at the time of enrollment.

Books, gait belt and uniform shirt may be purchased at the JCCC bookstore, first floor in the Student Center.

Student's Responsibilities

  • CPR for Health Care Provider's Card
  • TB skin test results within the last year
  • Social Security card
  • CNA card (for CMA/HHA/RA)
  • CNA/CMA card (for CMA-Update &CNA-Refresher classes)
  • White uniform, JCCC shirt and shoes (CNA, CMA)
  • Watch with sweep second hand (for all classes)
  • Gait belt (available at JCCC bookstore)
  • Textbooks (available at JCCC bookstore)
  • Student Professional Liability Insurance $16 fee (www.jccc.edu/payfees)

Optional

  • Stethoscope
  • Blood pressure cuff
