Physical Conditioning Program

Physical conditioning sessions are held approximately three times per week for the duration of the academy session.  The physical conditioning program at the Johnson County Regional Police Academy has several goals.  Among them are:

  • To assist each recruit in attaining a basic level of physical fitness in order to competently perform as a law enforcement officer in a variety of situations.
  • To instill a sense of teamwork and pride.
  • To increase individual confidence by assisting recruits in accomplishing personal goals they thought were beyond their abilities.
  • To encourage an atmosphere of discipline and maximum effort.

Johnson County Police Academy Recruits will perform a physical fitness assessment twice during the course of the 14-week academy.  The goal of the staff is to ensure every recruit is able to attain the established standard on all events.  The physical training tests and standards have been established based on data obtained from the Cooper Aerobics Institute in Dallas, Texas.

Academy Recruits will also be asked to participate in a 5K run toward the end of the class session.  The class will participate in selecting a local charity event and the goal of the staff is for all members of the class to participate in the event as part of a "formation run."  The class also raises money for whatever cause is selected.
