Johnson County Community College offers courses through the intermediate level in the following foreign languages:

  • Chinese
  • French
  • German
  • Japanese
  • Russian
  • Spanish

We also offer beginning courses in:

  • Hebrew
  • Italian
  • Latin
  • Portuguese
  • Arabic

Our instructional staff includes faculty with master's and doctoral degrees in the specific languages, as well as native speaker tutors in our Language Resource Center (LRC).

We believe that in an increasingly international environment, foreign language study is essential to cultural understanding, commercial and political affairs, and world peace.

Our teaching stresses communication in the target language and follows the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) proficiency guidelines.
