Will Norem Scholarship Story
Will Norem
Overland Park Convention Center Scholarship
JCCC Foundation Board of Directors' Leadership Scholarship
Will always steps up to the plate. As captain, he spent his summer leading
the JCCC culinary team to the National American Culinary Federation
championship on July 24 in Las Vegas, Nev. Will is in his fifth semester
of the three-year chef apprenticeship program and works at Hallbrook
Country Club more than 40 hours a week. The program consists of 6,000
hours of training under an American Culinary Federation chef member as
well as formal course work. Will really loves the work but doesn't make a
lot of money as an apprentice. That is why he appreciates the scholarship
he received from the Overland Park Convention Center. It helps him with
his tuition and books that he keeps for reference. Because of his
leadership on the JCCC culinary team and his 3.56 GPA, he won the JCCC
Board of Directors Leadership scholarship this fall.
The Overland Park Convention Center donates annually to fund this
scholarship for students who are seeking a degree in the hospitality
management program. If the student makes academic progress and is
recommended by the faculty, the recipient can receive up to $7,500 over
three years.
