OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Protect Yourself, Your Family and Your Business PLUS Identity Theft – The Fastest Growing Crime in America will be presented from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, in the Polsky Theatre of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College. The seminar is part of the Polsky Practical Personal Enrichment Series. Admission is free, but seating is limited. Reserve tickets by calling the JCCC box office, 913-469-4445.
Featured speakers are Ed Marquette, partner with Sonnenschein, Nath and Rosenthal LLP, and Kansas State Rep. Ed O’Malley (R-Shawnee). Marquette specializes in the areas of property management, wealth preservation as well as technology and intellectual property.
Marquette graduated cum laude from the Harvard University School of Law in 1976 and from the University of Missouri (Phi Beta Kappa) in 1973 with a degree in economics. He lectures to a wide variety of groups and has authored several articles and chapters on the subjects of asset preservation, antitrust and trade regulation law; Web content protection and software licensing compliance; and Internet-related law. He has long been listed in The Best Lawyers in America.
O’Malley was the primary sponsor for the Kansas legislature’s identity theft law, one of the most comprehensive in the nation. He serves on the Taxation, Economic Development, Financial Institutions and Transportation committees, is a key contributor to the 2004 Kansas Economic Growth Act and was one of eight legislators who crafted the bill that provided an additional $147 million for education. When not in session, O’Malley works for Shred-it, a small business providing document destruction services.
Polsky launched the Polsky Practical Personal Enrichment Series in 1999 on subjects such as banking, insurance, health and investing, topics not offered in formal academic settings. The series is underwritten by the Norman and Elaine Polsky Family Supporting Foundation within the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation in partnership with Johnson County Community College. Refreshments and socializing are offered 30 minutes before and after programs. Reserved parking is available.
