‘Noises Off’ and On at JCCC

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The  Johnson County Community College academic theatre department presents Noises Off at 8 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 16-18, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, in Polsky Theatre of the Carlsen Center.

Noises Off is the classic farce by British author Michael Frayn, often called one of the funniest plays in the last 30 years. Noises Off is a play within a play in which a second-rate British acting company stages a bad play, Nothing On.

Noises Off is performed in three acts: Act I is the final dress rehearsal; Act II is the opening night seen from the backstage; and Act III is the performance at the end of its tour.  Comedy emerges as backstage relationships and antics become hopelessly intertwined with the onstage play. The result is bedlam, and the two plots become one.

JCCC’s Noises Off is directed by Scott Stackhouse, adjunct theater professor.

“This show celebrates all that can go wrong in live theater – a cavalcade of mistakes, madness and mayhem. The things theater people always hide from the audience are now what the show is about,” Stackhouse said.

Admission is free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. No tickets or reservations are required. For more information, call 913-469-8500, ext. 6558.
