JCCC trustees publicly release attorneys’ report

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – This evening, the Johnson County Community College board of trustees received the written results of an independent review examining questions regarding allegations involving the recently retired college president. The written report prepared by the law firm of Badger & Levings, Kansas City, Mo., is now available online at: http://www.jccc.net/home/depts/003100/site/badgerletter.

“The trustees will study the report’s findings in detail,” said Lynn Mitchelson, chair, JCCC board of trustees. “If processes or policies need to be improved, we’ll work with faculty and staff to make the necessary changes so that this college continues to be the outstanding institution we’re so proud of.”

In April, the board of trustees commissioned an independent analysis of public allegations at the college. In May, Betsy Badger, an attorney with Badger & Levings, was hired to conduct the review, which was to cover both personnel and processes. Badger and her law partner, Theresa Levings, directed an independent review that looked at pertinent policies and identified and interviewed people with pertinent information.

The board acknowledges that recommendations from Badger and Levings regarding personnel matters must balance the public’s desire to know details with the privacy rights of college staff in accordance with college policy and public law.
