JCCC trustees will interview eight candidates for board vacancy

Overland Park, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College board of trustees plans to interview eight candidates for the board seat vacated by former trustee Virginia Krebs. Krebs resigned from the board in October after serving as a trustee since 1985.

At a special meeting Nov. 12, the board reviewed 13 applications to fill the vacancy and decided to interview the following candidates: Laura S. Byrne-Harris, Leawood; William A. Dean, Overland Park; Ronnie Metsker, Overland Park; Michael M. Morales, Olathe; Melody L. Rayl, Olathe; Kurtis M. Ruf, Overland Park; Mary R. Tearney, Leawood; and Sandra K. Willsie, Overland Park.

The trustees will interview the candidates at approximately 5:30 p.m. Nov. 20 (not at 6 p.m., as originally announced), following the regular board meeting that begins at 4 p.m. that day in the Hugh Speer Board Room, 137 GEB, on the college campus. Board of trustee meetings are open to the public.

At that time, the candidates, in alphabetical order, will have five minutes to present themselves to the board, and then the board will have 10 minutes to ask each candidate questions.

One candidate will be selected that night and will be seated for the next board meeting on Dec. 11. The successful candidate will fill the remainder of Krebs’ term, which expires June 30, 2009.

The other applicants were Mark K. Anderson, Mission Hills; Eugene T. Bode, Kansas City, Mo.; David R. Cuba, Olathe; Mark W. Edwards, Overland Park; and Gloria F. Ruttman, Overland Park.

Applicants must be residents of and registered voters in Johnson County to be eligible for consideration.
