JCCC Campus Ledger cartoonist wins national award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Vincent Medellin, cartoonist for The Campus Ledger, won first place and $250 in a national cartooning contest sponsored by Universal Press Syndicate and the Associated Collegiate Press.

Medellin, Overland Park, competed against cartoonists from both two-year and four-year schools across the United States. He received a plaque and a check at the National College Media Convention Oct. 31 in Austin, Texas.

A total of 172 entries were received for the contest. Medellin’s entry consisted of three of his comic strips entitled “Skyline,” which appear on the back page of The Campus Ledger, the student newspaper of Johnson County Community College.
