OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The Republic Tigers with special guest Ad Astra Per Aspera will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec., 4, in Polsky Theatre of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College.
The Kansas City-based rock band The Republic Tigers boasts current members Kenn Jankowski, vocals, guitar; Adam McGill, guitar, vocals; Ryan Pinkston, guitar vocals; Marc Pepperman, bass; and Justin Tricomi, drums, vocals. It's the first band to be signed to Chop Shop Records, owned by Alexandra Patsavas.
The group released its debut album Keep Color in 2008, which includes the singles Buildings and Mountains, Fight Song and 10 others. Since signing with Chop Shop Records, their music has been featured on television shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Gossip Girl, Chuck and Supernational.
Ad Astra Per Aspera is a Lawrence indie rock, punk and tropical band that took its name from the Kansas motto. They released their debut album, An Introduction To, in 2003 and a full-length album, Catapult Calypso, in 2006. Singles, Danger Bird Blues and Party Bones, are available on Amazon and iTunes.
Tickets are $5 for students with a JCCC ID and $10 for the public, available at the Student Activities Desk and the Carlsen Center Box Office, 913-469-4445.
