JCCC academic theater presents ‘Almost, Maine’

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Love and romance are in the air in Almost, Maine,  a play performed by Johnson County Community College’s academic theater department  at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 12-14. and Friday-Saturday Nov. 20-21 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, in Polsky Theatre of the Carlsen Center. The production is free and open to the public. No reservations required.

Written by John Cariani, Almost, Maine opened off-Broadway in the winter of 2005-2006 at the Daryl Roth Theatre, and it continues to be widely praised for its smart, funny take on life and love in a small, mythical town in far northern Maine.

On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in Almost.  As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend—almost—in this delightful midwinter night's dream.

Beate Pettigrew, artistic coordinator for the theater department, directs the fiveman, four-woman play.

Almost, Maine can be performed with four actors—as in the original production—or with as many as 19.  This play is a terrific acting vehicle for our students, and most of this cast will be making their JCCC debut in this production.”
