OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College interior design department will host Don Gerds teaching a Perspective and Rendering Workshop from 5-10 p.m. Friday, March 6, and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, March 7, in room 234 of the Carlsen Center. Gerds is an instructor in interior design, architecture and graphic design at Santa Monica College, Calif.
Participants will learn to create interior perspectives utilizing a commerical grid. Marker techniques for rendering such interior materials as wood, glass, metal and fabrics will be shown and applied.
Gerds is an award-winning graphic and product designer, holding a bachelor’s degree in design from the University of Southern California and a master’s degree in design from the California State University, Los Angeles. Gerds conducts design and drawing workshops throughout the United States. Additionally, he has written three books: Perspective, The Grid System; Markers for Interiors, Exteriors and Product Design; and Markers for Advertising Comps.
The cost is $150 for the public and $75 for JCCC students and faculty. Participants will receive a basic set of markers, marker paper, Edgemark Guide and workshop handouts.
The proceeds of this event will go to the Harris-Polsky-Cummings Professional Development Scholarship for interior design students. For more information, contact Diana Ingham, associate professor, interior design, at 913-469-8500, ext. 3317.
