JCCC co-sponsors translators symposium

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Mid-America Chapter of the American Translators Association will have a symposium from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Friday, March 13, and 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, March 14, in the Regnier Center Atrium at Johnson County Community College.

The Friday evening event is an informal reception with no formal agenda.

The speakers on Saturday include professional translators, interpreters, entrepreneurs and educators. The featured speaker is Nicholas Hartmann, who began working full time as an independent technical and scientific translator in 1984 and now specializes in translating patents and related documents for corporate clients and law firms in the United States and Europe. He has served the American Translators Association as president-elect (2007-09); administrator, chair or member of committees on client education, science, technology, terminology and ethics; and a member of the editorial board of the ATE Chronicle. Hartmann holds ATE certification in French-English, German–English and Italian-English.

JCCC is a co-sponsor of the event.

On-site registration is $35 for students, $95 for MICATA members and $110 for non-MICATA members. For more information, contact Bradley Shaw, MICATA president, at bradshaw@ksu.edu or 785-532-2988.
