OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Francesca Manheim, Kansas City Symphony violinist, and Ya-Ting Liou, pianist, will perform in concert at noon Monday, April 6, in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College.

Manheim started playing the Suzuki violin at age 4 and grew up playing in an ensemble called Young People's String Consort in Cape Cod, Mass. She received her bachelor's degree from New England Conservatory and went on to play with the New World Symphony when it toured Japan and the United Kingdom. She has enjoyed playing chamber music with groups such as the Colorado String Quartet, Kent/Blossom Chamber Festival, Kansas City Chamber Orchestra and Brookside String Quartet. Other orchestral experiences include the National Repertory Orchestra, Colorado Music Festival and Naples Philharmonic. Manheim has played with the Kansas City Symphony for 15 years.

Liou currently serves as piano faculty at the Community Music and Dance Academy at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Liou, along with pianist and husband Blas Gonzalez, have performed their Pangea Piano Project across the globe in New Zealand, Taiwan and Argentina.

Performance highlights in Liou’s career include appearances at the Kennedy Center, State of the Art at the State Department in Washington, D.C., Yamaha Hall in New York, Kaoshiung Cultural Center and Taipei National Concert Hall, Taiwan.

The April 6 concert concludes the spring Ruel Joyce Recital Series, named for Ruel Joyce, a longtime jazz bassist who headed the local musicians federation from 1977 until his death in 1989. The concerts are cosponsored by the JCCC music department, Community Services and the Richard J. Stern Foundation for the Arts. Admission is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call 913-469-8500, ext. 3605.
