OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Andrew Fuller, Kansas City Symphony violinist, and Brendan Kinsella, pianist, will perform at noon Monday, March 2, in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College. The free recital is part of the Ruel Joyce Recital Series featuring Kansas City classical musicians.
Fuller has been a member of the Symphony since 2004, after having been assistant concertmaster of the Akron Symphony Orchestra, assistant concertmaster of the Madison Symphony Orchestra and principal second violin of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. He received a bachelor’s degree in music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master’s degree in music from the Cleveland Institute of Music. An avid chamber musician, Fuller was a member of the Olympian String Quartet. He regularly attended the Aspen Music Festival, where he was a fellowship student for three years. He also took part in the Icicle Creek Chamber Music Festival, Washington.
Kinsella has appeared widely throughout the United States and Asia in venues such as the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing; Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Calif; and Music Hall, Cincinnati.
As an enthusiastic performer of new music, Kinsella has performed works featuring the works of John Adams, Martin Bresnick, Chen Yi, Gao Ping, Jerome Kitzke and Frederic Rzewski as well as newly commissioned works by emerging composers.
His 2008 performances have included lecture-recitals and guest artist residencies focused on Olivier Messiaen’s Vingt regards sur l’Enfant-Jésus. As a collaborative pianist, he has performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Dayton Philharmonic and Kansas City Symphony and in recital with artists such as Benny Kim, Wilfredo Pasamba and Daniel Saenz.
Kinsella began studying piano at age 11 and made his concert debut at age 15 with the Kentucky Symphony. He earned his bachelor of music and master of music degrees from the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music and his doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
