JCCC Nell Mitchell Wellness Speaker and Fair planned for April

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College will have its annual Nell Mitchell Wellness Speaker and Wellness Fair in April, free annual events made possible through the Nell Mitchell estate since March 1999. Mitchell, an Overland Park resident and physical education instructor at Paseo High School, left $1 million from her estate to the JCCC Foundation to be used for physical education scholarships and promoting wellness in the community.

  • The Nell Mitchell Wellness Speaker will be Matthew Emerzian, Los Angeles, co-founder and co-author of Every Monday Matters, presenting Have You Made Today Matter? from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, April 23, in room 211 of the Carlsen Center, JCCC.

Emerzian and Kelly Bozza wrote the book Every Monday Matters to communicate their idea that ordinary individuals, either acting alone or together, can change the world. EMM promotes the fact that people not only have the power to make change, they also have a social responsibility to do so. Emerzian will be sharing stories from people who have made a difference and explain the You Matter K-12 school curriculum, launched in more than 40 schools March 1.

  • The JCCC Nell Mitchell Wellness Fair will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m.  Wednesday, April 29, in  the JCCC Gymnasium Fieldhouse.

The fair features wellness activities, information booths and screenings. People are encouraged to dress casually so they can participate in activities. A wellness basket will be awarded.
