OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College will have its commencement exercises at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 15, in the JCCC Gymnasium. JCCC celebrates its 40th anniversary at this commencement.
The speaker will be John E. Roueche, professor and director of the Community College Leadership Program at the University of Texas at Austin, where he holds the Sid W. Richardson Regents Chair in Community College Leadership.
A nationally recognized authority in community college education, Roueche has written 34 books and more than 150 chapters and articles. Roueche is a community college graduate and received his Ph.D. in higher education administration from Florida State University.
The GED graduation is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, in the JCCC Gymnasium. Johnson County Adult Education celebrates its 25th anniversary with this graduation. The speaker will be Phil Wegman, program director, Workforce, Community and Economic Development.
Wegman was instrumental in the development of Adult Basic Education in Johnson County, which came to be called Project Finish, now called Johnson County Adult Education. Johnson County Adult Education, sponsored by JCCC and the Johnson County Library, provides classes and individualized instruction to help undereducated adults improve reading, writing, and math skills; prepare for the GED test; or learn English as a second language.
