JCCC hosts career and technical expo
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College and a consortium of 11 school districts in Johnson, Douglas and Miami counties are sponsoring a Career and Technical Expo from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, in the indoor track of JCCC’s Gym.
The expo is designed to make students, parents and the community aware of post-secondary options that do not require a four-year degree.
“With the rise in cost of four-year tuition and a decrease in the labor market, more students are looking at employment opportunities that don’t require a bachelor’s degree,” said Minnie Adams, Career Pathways and Programs, JCCC, who organizes the expo.
More than 40 different career and technical program representatives have been invited to share information about job availability, salary potential and required training and education. Many of the programs have the option of expanding to a four-year degree. Representatives from other two-year colleges, technical schools, four-year institutions and businesses will also be there.
Programs that will be represented include accounting, animation, automotive technology, business office technology, construction management, cosmetology, early childhood education, entrepreneurship, emergency medical science, fashion design, game development, graphic design, health information technology, hospitality management, interior design, legal studies, marketing and management, massage therapy, metal fabrication/welding, nursing, railroad technology (BNSF) and respiratory care.
To get students started on their post-secondary education, information will be provided on admissions to schools, scholarships and financial aid. Giveaway prizes will be awarded.
The Career and Technical Expo is free and open to the public. For more information, call 913-469-8500, ex. 4710.
