OVERLAND PARK, KS The Johnson County Community College golf team won the first Kansas Jayhawk Conference Designated held at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield, Kan. The Cavaliers finished 10 strokes better than runner-up Hutchinson. In addition, three members of the Cavaliers team finished in the top-10, and four in the top-12.

Leading the way was sophomore Trevor Johanson, who opened the 2009-10 golf season the same as how ended last year, as the teamıs hottest player.

Johanson posted a score of 3-under par to place second. He opened with a 3-under 69, matching his collegiate best round, and followed with an even par round of 72. His 141 total tied the third-best in team history in a conference designated.

Last year, Johanson, an all-conference performer, finished the year with a stroke average of 77.4, second-best on the team. But last spring Johanson was one of the best golfers in the conference, posting a 75.8 stroke average.

Freshman Eric Herman and sophomore Matt Puhr had solid efforts as well. Herman fired rounds of 74 and 76 for a 150 total and share of sixth-place. Puhr was one shot back with rounds of 74 and 77, good for ninth-place tie. Sophomore Garrett Carver tied for 12th with a 153 total, posting rounds of 71 and 82.

JCCC will hit the links again Monday, Sept. 14, when they travel for the second conference designated hosted by Dodge City Community College at Terradyne Country Club in Andover, Kan.
