Cavaliers win first conference golf tournament

OVERLAND PARK, KS --  The Johnson County Community College golf team opened the 2007-08 season with a victory this week, winning the first of six conference designated tournaments.  JCCC finished with a team score of 899, 13 shots ahead of second-place finisher Hutchinson Community College, and 27 shots better than Dodge City Community College.  The tournament was held at Heritage Hills Golf Course in McCook, Neb.  In addition, four of JCCC’s five players finished in the top-10 in the tournament.

Leading the way was sophomore Mike Elafros who finished third overall. Elafros fired rounds of 75, 74 and 73 for a 222 total.  Sophomore Nate Sargent tied for fourth overall with a 225 total.  He had rounds of 72, 80 and 73.  Freshman Mike Christensen placed in a tie for seventh with a 228 (79-74-75) and sophomore Keith Erickson tied for ninth with a 230 total (73-81-76).  JCCC’s fifth golfer, freshman Seth Haight, tied for 15th with a 236 (81-75, 80).
