Golf team finishes 16th at nationals

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College golf team capped its 2008-09 season last week at the NJCAA National Golf Championships at the Hampton Cove River Course, in Huntsville, Ala. The Cavaliers finished the tournament 16th overall, which ties the ninth-best national finish in team history. JCCC was one of five teams from Kansas Jayhawk Conference to participate at nationals, and the Cavaliers had the second-best finish among those schools.
Leading the Cavaliers in this championship was freshman Trevor Johanson of Maize, Kan. Johanson finished tied for 43rd with a 306 total over 72 holes. He fired rounds of 79, 73, 74 and 80. His 306 total ties the 19th-best effort by a JCCC golfer at nationals.
Freshman Nate Allison of Topeka, Kan., and sophomore Miles Christensen of Junction City, Kan., followed with scores of 308 and 311 respectively. Allison had rounds of 75, 75, 76, and 82. Christensen shot 73, 79, 76, and 83.
Freshmen Garrett Carver and Bryce Rowe round out JCCC's competitors. Carver shot 318 (81, 79, 79, 79) and finished tied for 84th. Rowe posted a 336 (82, 90, 84, 80) and placed 107th.
