Marquez leads JCCC at Emporia State Cross Country Invitational

OVERLAND PARK, KS ­ -- Johnson County Community College cross country runner Adrian Marquez is off to a great start to his sophomore campaign. For the second consecutive meet, Marquez posted a career best time.

The Hutchinson native recently posted a fifth-place finish at the Emporia State/Planet Sub Invitational with a time of 25:46.58. That time was 26.22 seconds faster than his time of 26:13.20 he ran the previous meet at Tabor College. His time at Tabor was 43 just over 43 seconds faster than his previous best time as a freshman. Additionally, Marquez's time at Emporia State was the fastest by JCCC runner in the Cavaliers history of competing in that event. The previous time by a JCCC runner in that event was 26:03.00, set in 2002 by Brock Peterson.

Sophomore Josh Lacer and freshman Nathan Sloniker raced to top 20 finishes. Lacer crossed the finish line in 14th place with a time of 26:31.27. Sloniker was two back at 16th place with a time of 26:34.09.

Rounding out JCCC's team were: Adam Estivillo (24th-26:49.44), James Carter (25th-26:49.79), Ryan Keene (29th-27:00.21), Jeffery Lind (42nd-27:41.05), Ben Bently (43rd-27:42.02), Darrell Banks (44th-27:42.48), Austin Cooksey (57th-28:31.39), Brian Mayne (65th-29:00.88) and Carlos Monge (78th-29:55.45).
