Lady Cavaliers drop another close road game
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College women's basketball team dropped its second straight road game Saturday afternoon at Kansas City Kansas Community College, 48-47. Four days earlier they nearly handed conference leader Labette a loss, but the Cardinals escaped with a 62-59 overtime win.
The Lady Cavaliers defense put the team in a position to come away winners, but JCCC couldn't connect on two shots in the finals seconds against the Lady Devils. It was seventh time JCCC had held an opponent to less than 50 points, but this was the first time the Lady Cavaliers weren't on the winning end.
³We really did a nice job on the boards and other than 2 or 3 critical breakdowns, our defense gave us a shot," said JCCC head coach Ben Conrad.
³But we struggled to shoot the ball and couldn¹t get scoring production from a third kid. Usually college teams need a fourth scorer to win. Our team has defended so well that when we just get that third score, we have won games. Against KCK we didn¹t get that third scorer.²
Sophomore Danielle Shows led JCCC with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Crista Bechard followed with 13 points and six boards. As a team, JCCC hit just 4-of-24 shots from 3-point range. Additionally, the team struggled for the line as well. Ranked among the top free throw shooting teams nationally this season, the Lady Cavaliers hit just 9-of-15 for 60 percent against Kansas City Kansas.
