Lady Cavaliers move on
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College women's basketball team advanced to the next round in the NJCAA D-II playoffs by defeating Hesston College, 66-55, on Saturday afternoon. JCCC will now face Louisiana State University-Eunice on Friday, March 6, at North Arkansas College in Harrison, Ark. The winner will either face Brown Mackie College or North Arkansas College on Saturday for a berth to the NJCAA D-II National Tournament.
JCCC sophomore guard Sasha Barnes came in off the bench to power the Lady Cavaliers, scoring a game-high 22 points. Barnes hit all seven of her shots, including four 3-pointers, and was 4-of-6 at the charity stripe. She also had three rebounds and three assists.
Freshman Crista Bechard followed with 14 points, hitting 4-of-6 shots, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, and all three free throw attempts. She also had two rebounds, three assists and three steals. Sophomore Danielle Shows added eight points and 11 rebounds, and freshmen Melissa Nelson and Katie Nietke chipped in seven and six points respectively. Nelson led the team with five assists.
