Jeff Soptic to become a Cavalier

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College head baseball coach
Kent Shelley announced Jeff Soptic, a 6-6, 185 pound right-handed pitcher
from Leawood, Kan., has signed a national letter of intent to play his
college baseball at JCCC.

Soptic attends Shawnee Mission East High School and is coached by Tim
Jarrell. Soptic is one of the top prospects in the Midwest. Last year he
pitched 75 innings, gave up only 52 hits, and compiled 54 strikeouts during
his junior season. Soptic is also an outstanding student.

“Jeff is one of the best pitchers in the state of Kansas and he is going to
look good in a Cavalier uniform," Shelley said. "He throws in the upper
80’s and will top out at 91. He has been getting a lot of interest from
Major League Baseball and turned down several outstanding Division 1 offers
to come to our place. He will get a lot of attention this June in the
draft.”
