Cody Schumacher commits to JCCC baseball program
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College head baseball coach Kent Shelley announced Cody Schumacher, a 6-0, 170 pound right-handed pitcher from Topeka Hayden High School in Topeka, Kan., has given his commitment to the Cavalier’s baseball program.
Schumacher plays for coach Aaron Becker at Hayden High School, and comes from the same program as former Cavalier great Dustin Holthaus and current Cavalier All-American Brandon Droge. Last year, Schumacher was selected first-team All-City by the Topeka Capital Journal.
Last fall, Schumacher played for Francis Sporting Goods and had an outstanding season. He led the team with a .478 average. He had 33 hits in 83 plate appearances and only struck out three times. Schumacher also had the highest on-base percentage (.554), and the second highest slugging percentage (.551) on the team. On the mound he was 3-1, with 21 strikeouts, eight walks, and a 2.80 ERA.
“Cody comes from one of the best programs in the state of Kansas,” Shelley said. “We have had very good success with players out of Hayden and we are very excited to get Cody. He is very athletic and is a bulldog on the mound. He shows outstanding movement on his fastball and a curveball that will get guys out. We look for him to come in right away and be an impact player on the mound.”
