Sam Johns signs with the Cavaliers

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College head baseball coach Kent Shelley announced Sam Johns, a 6-2, 180-pound right handed pitcher has committed to play his college baseball at JCCC. Johns attends Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto, Ill., and is coached by Gary Bruening.

In his sophomore season, Johns posted some incredible numbers. He was a perfect 8–0 from the mound, pitched 49 innings, only gave up 46 hits, struck out 53 batters, and had only 14 walks. Hitters only hit .237 against him and he posted a 1.99 ERA.

Last season, Johns put together another dominating year. He was 6-4 from the mound, pitched 62 innings, only gave up 51 hits, struck out 65 batters, and had only 15 walks. Hitters only hit .215 against him and he posted a 2.61 ERA.

“Sam is a power pitcher who can throw in the upper 80’s,” said Shelley. “He has posted some incredible numbers in the last two years. Our pitching staff attacks hitters early in the count and the fact that he rarely walks anyone tells me he will fit in right away. We are very lucky to get a pitcher with his ability and he will help us compete at a high level.”
