OVERLAND PARK, KS -- JCCC sophomore outfielder Drew House is returning to hometown to finish out his career. House has signed a national letter of intent with Friends University in Wichita, Kan. House, who graduated from Maize High School, is expected to make an immediate impact at Friends University as the program is graduating 20 seniors in 2009. House will play under Derek Leppert who is in his second season at Friends.
"My staff and I are truly excited to bring a local young man home from a great junior college program," said Leppert. We look forward to the next two seasons watching Drew play."
As a freshman at JCCC, House hit .283 (13-for-46) along with a .389 on base percentage. He also had a double, a triple, scored 13 runs and drove in 12 runners. House had several key at bats for the Cavaliers on their way to a Region VI championship last season. Possibly his biggest contributions were his ability to come off the bench for a big pinch hit and provide solid defensive support in the outfield.
House will be joining a quality program at Friends University. This year, the Falcons are picked second in the coaches' preseason KCAC poll, and are coming off a year which they finished one game out of first place. Friends completed the 2008 campaign with a 29-17 record, and ranked in the top 20 in the country in home runs per game and team slugging percentage.
