OVERLAND PARK, KS — Johnson County Community College sophomore pitcher Nick Holtgrieve has verbally committed to continue his collegiate baseball career for the Tigers of Ouachita Baptist University, a perennial NCAA Division 2 Powerhouse. The Tigers are coached by Chris Moddelmog, the former head coach at Ft. Scott Community College.

Holtgrieve is a 6’3 pitcher from Independence, Mo, who attended St. Mary’s High School. As a freshman at JCCC, Holtgrieve was a key member of the pitching staff that helped lead the Cavaliers to a Region VI Championship and a berth to the NJCAA JUCO World Series.  He was the top reliever for the Johnson County pitching staff and looks to fill that role again this spring.

Holtgrieve started his collegiate career by pitching 24 innings of scoreless baseball, including his lone start as a pitcher, which was a seven inning complete game shutout. He finished the season with a 1.87 ERA.

“I am very excited for Nick to be able to continue his academic and athletic careers at Ouachita Baptist,” said JCCC head coach Kent Shelley. “Nick is an outstanding young man who as a closer for JCCC has put up impressive numbers for the Cavaliers, and I expect him to have an impact on the program at OBU.”
