Delby Hannah commits to become a Cavalier

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College head baseball coach Kent Shelley announced Delby Hannah, a 6-1, 215 pound first baseman from Harrisonville High School, has given his commitment to the Cavalier’s baseball program.

Hannah led the way for the Wildcats, who reached the Missouri Class 3 semifinals last year, hitting .475.  He also had 10 doubles while scoring 29 runs and knocking in 35 runs.  He finished the season with a .750 slugging percentage and four home runs.  He was selected on the KC Star’s All Metro Team as the first team first baseman and was selected as a second team all state in Missouri Class 3.

Hannah plays for former Major Leaguer David Segui’s Expos in the summer and fall.  Segui said

“Delby is a player on the verge of catching the attention of baseball people around the Midwest,” Segui said.  “He is a leader on the field who combines incredible power with the ability to make adjustments from pitch to pitch.  Delby is deceptively quick around the bag and possesses some of the softest hands I have seen around first base. Here is a young man who truly enjoys the game and makes the game more enjoyable for those around him. Wish I had more players like him.”

Hannah will be an impact player right out of the shoots.  He will be expected to provide solid defense and be a middle of the order guy that drives in runs.

“We are extremely excited with Delby’s verbal commitment to become a Cavalier,” said Shelley.  “He is considered one of the top hitting first basemen in the state of Missouri.  He possess soft hands, great feet, coupled with tremendous power to all fields.  Delby is a baseball guy who has an outstanding work ethic and is a guy you can’t keep out of the cage. His burning passion for the game will fit in nicely into a Cavalier uniform.”
