Cavaliers split with Allen County
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College baseball team got a split against Allen County on Saturday afternoon at JCCC. In the first game, Allen County hit early and often against the Cavaliers. The Red Devils scored eight runs in the first two innings, then cruised to a 15-3 victory. Mitchell Mathis, Jeremy Francis and Chad Griffin each collected two hits in the game for the Cavaliers.
In the second game, freshman pitcher Brandon Droge had to be perfect and nearly was. He pitched seven innings in a 2-1 JCCC victory. Only one ball lost in the sun kept Droge from a shutout. This is Droge's fourth win of the season.
Overall, JCCC's defense was outstanding, committing no errors. Second baseman David Drohazal made several great plays with this glove to hold the Cavaliers slim lead. Mathis kept up his hot hitting, going 2-for-3, while Drohazal went 2-for-2.
The Cavaliers won the season series against Allen County this season. JCCC swept the Red Devils earlier this year, and with this split, they took the series 3-1. JCCC improves to 20-12 overall and remain in second place in the conference at 15-7.
JCCC continues conference play at home Tuesday, April 8, against Neosho County Community College.
