OVERLAND PARK, KS — Johnson County Community College baseball players Brandon Droge, a sophomore from Topeka, Kan.,  and John Lenherr, a sophomore from Windom, Kan., have been selected among the top players in junior college baseball this season by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The issue hit the newsstands Jan. 2, 2009.

Droge, a left-handed pitcher, led the squad in innings pitched with 98 and ERA at 1.29. His 98 innings are a season record, and his ERA ranked among the top 10 in the NJCAA. The left-hander had a record of 8-2 last season, and led the team with seven complete games, including a 10 strikeout effort in a win over Cloud County in the first round of the Region VI Tournament. Droge was selected first team All-East Jayhawk Conference, first team All-Region VI, and NJCAAA honorable mention All-American.

Lenherr registered the second highest batting average on the team at .421 (82-for-195), with 15 doubles, two triples, a home run, 55 runs and 44 RBI. His 82 hits also led the team and rank second all-time in team history, just one away from the record. Lenherr had 24 multiple-hit games, with 10 games of three or more hits. He also had 10 multiple-RBI games during the 2008 campaign.

Droge and Lenherr will be key players for the Cavaliers who look to defend their Region 6 title and their ninth place finish in the 2008 JUCO World Series. The Cavaliers will open the 2009 season Feb. 17th, on the road against cross town rival Longview Community College.  The Lakers are ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA Division III poll.
