Cavaliers Continue to Roll

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College baseball continued its hot play, posting a conference sweep over Highland Community College.

JCCC won game one 6-2, and followed with a 3-1 win in game two.

In the opener,  the Cavaliers took advantage of a first inning error by Highland as Davis Morgan and J.P. LaMunyon each added RBI hits to give JCCC an early 2-0 advantage. The offense then put the game away in the top half of the seventh by scoring three runs,  taking advantage of three hit batsmen and one walk by Highland.

Morgan, LaMunyon, Nate Thomas, and Harrison Gerber added one hit a piece.

Zack Smith got the start for the Cavaliers and pitched five innings, allowing five hits, and two earned runs. Nick Holtgrieve came in with the bases loaded in the sixth and struck out the first batter he faced and got the second batter to pop up in the infield. He then pitched a perfect seventh to collect his fifth save on the year.

In the second game, Scott Brady got the nod for his second start of the year pitched like a Cy Young winner. Brady pitched six innings of scoreless baseball while surrendering only four hits with six strikeouts to improve his record to 2-0. Nick Holtgrieve came in the sevemthth to collect his second save of the day and sixth on the year. Tanner Funk sparked the Cavaliers offense in the fourth with a one out double and later scored on a Davis Morgan sacrifice fly. JCCC again took advantage of three Highland errors to provide enough offense to get the win.
