OVERLAND PARK, KS – The Johnson County Community College baseball team has been selected ninth in the 2009 NJCAA Division I Baseball Poll. It is the program’s highest preseason ranking in history. Last year, the Cavaliers finished 41-18, and earned the program’s first trip to the NJCAA JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colo.
Additionally, sophomore Brandon Droge was selected as a first-team Preseason All-American. The 6-5 left-hander from Topeka, Kan., was a key fixture on the mound last year. He earned NJCAA honorable mention All-American, becoming just the eighth player in JCCC history to earn that distinction, and just the second pitcher. He also garnered first-team All-Region VI and first-team All-East Jayhawk Conference.
Droge ranked among the nation’s leaders (13th) in ERA at 1.27 as a freshman. He pitched a season record 98 innings, and posted a record of 8-2 with 74 strikeouts. He also etched his name among the all-time season leaders in team history. He ranks tied for 11th in season wins (8), second in season starts (14), ninth in season strikeouts (74) and seventh in season ERA (1.27).
