Cavaliers defeat nationally ranked Longview again
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- For the second time in a week, the No. 9 ranked Johnson County Cavaliers baseball team posted a lopsided win over Longview Community College, ranked 15th in NJCAA Division II baseball. The Cavaliers hitters and pitchers dominated this game, resulting in an 11-1 victory.
The JCCC pitching staff recorded 12 strikeouts and allowed only four hits. Freshman Gage Daniels improved to 2-0 on the season, pitching six innings, with nine strikeouts and only one earned run. Freshman Gil Rehwinkel and sophomores Ben Runyon and Nick Holtgieve each pitched scoreless innings to finish the game.
At the plate the Cavaliers were hitting on all cylinders. JCCC pounded out 15 hits and all nine starters recorded at least one hit on the day. Sophomores John Lenherr, Nate Thomas and Brian McCulloch each had two hits, and freshman JP LaMunyon ripped three hits. Lenherr hit his first home run of 2009 and McCulloch came up big several times to collect three RBI.
The Cavaliers travel to Mt. Pleasant Texas this weekend for a four game series against Northeast Texas Community College, Temple College and Paris Junior College.
