JCCC rolls through rival Kansas City Kansas
OVERLAND PARK, KS – The East Jayhawk Conference leading Johnson County Community College baseball team continued its hot play yesterday, posting a sweep over cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas Community College, at Community America Park. JCCC edged the Blue Devils 6-5 in game one, and rolled to an 11-2 victory in the second game. With the sweep, the Cavaliers improve to 28-5 overall, and to 14-2 in the conference.
In the opener, the one run margin was a lot closer then the game appeared. The Cavaliers dominated most of the game until three errors in the fifth inning led to four unearned runs by the Blue Devils, knotted the game at 5-5. In the Cavaliers sixth inning, Sam Stuckey walked, Harrison Gerber advanced him to third and Mike Sartin drove him in with a double. That was all that closer Nick Holtgrieve would need to pick up his first win of the season. He retired eight straight batters to end the game. The Cavaliers collected 10 hits on the day with Sartin and J.P. LaMunyon ripping three hits each.
In the second game, the Cavaliers put the game away in the seventh inning with six runs on four hits. Sartin and LaMunyon continued to tear up the Blue Devils pitching staff adding another two hits to their day. Gage Daniels pitched six innings to earn his sixth win on the season. Gil Rehwinkel finished the game with a 1-2-3 inning.
