Cavaliers return to action with sweep over Highland

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- After a nine day layoff due the weather, the  Johnson County Community College baseball team got back into action on Saturday against Highland Community College. The Cavaliers recorded another sweep of a conference opponent, winning by the scores of 17-8 and 10-4.  The Cavaliers are now 24-8 overall and rank 10th in the country.  They also hold the top spot in the conference standings with a 10-2 record.

In the first game,  the Cavaliers jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back.  The offense collected five hits and took advantage of four walks in the inning.  Highland fought back in the third inning with five runs with two outs to make the game 8-5.  However, JCCC answered with four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to secure the victory.

JCCC pounded out 15 hits in the game behind a strong performance from J.P. LaMunyon, Davis Morgan, and Nate Thomas.  Each collected three hits in the game.  Brandon Droge pitched four innings to improve his record to 7-1 on the year.

JCCC won game two behind another brilliant pitching performance from freshman Gage Daniels.  Daniels pitched six innings and gave up no earned runs on the day to improve his record to 5-2 on the season.  The Cavaliers scored three runs in the second inning, five in the fourth, and two runs in the sixth to help preserve the victory.  The offense pounded out 11 hits behind Morgan, Brian McCulloch, each with three hits.
