JCCC pitchers hound Fort Scott
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College baseball team recorded another sweep over a conference opponent, taking two games against Fort Scott Community College. The Cavaliers won the first game 3-1, then capped the sweep with a 5-0 shutout in game two. JCCC received two outstanding pitching efforts in both victories. With the sweep, the 10th ranked Cavaliers improve to 26-5 overall, and remain in first place in the East Jayhawk with a 12-2 mark.
In the opener, JCCC witnessed a very strong pitching performance from Zack Smith. He pitched six innings, giving up six hits, while only allowing one unearned run to cross the plate. He improved his record to 5-1 on the season. In the seventh inning, the Cavaliers turned to closer Nick Holtgrieve who pitched a perfect 1-2-3 inning to notch his eighth save of the year in eight chances.
JCCC was trailing much of the game until the sixth inning when they scored three runs by taking advantage of mistakes by the Greyhounds. J.P. LaMunyon came up big in the inning with a bases loaded single that drove in two runs.
In second game, JCCC saw an even better pitching performance from Scott Brady. The sophomore left-hander pitched a complete game shutout while only allowing one hit on the day. Brady improved his record to 4-0 on the season and watched his ERA fall below 1.00 on the year.
The Cavaliers hitters broke out of their shell in the game behind strong performances from Davis Morgan, Brian McCulloch, David Drahozal, and LaMunyon.
