Cavaliers spilt with Cowley, remain in first place
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College traveled to Cowley College to take on the second place Tigers in a big conference double header on Thursday.
In game one, the Cavaliers won a pitching duel 2-0, behind the strong arm of Brandon Droge. The All-American left-hander improved his record to 6-1 and pitched four shutout innings of one hit baseball before a one hour rain delay forced him to come out of the game. JCCC then turned to closer Nick Holtgrieve to finish out the game and preserve the win. Holtgrieve picked up his seventh save of the year which ties him for the single season and career records for saves. With only four total hits in the game the Cavaliers did a great job of capitalizing on six Cowley Tiger errors to take the 2-0 win.
In game two the Tigers bats came alive. Cowley got out to a fast start against JCCC starter Gage Daniels, scoring three runs in the first inning. That proved too much for the Cavaliers offense to overcome. Cowley put the game away in the sixth, scoring three more runs to take the 7-2 victory. John Lenherr and Nate Thomas led JCCC, each collecting two hits, while Tanner Funk and Davis Morgan collected one hit each.
