Cavaliers among national leaders

0VERLAND PARK, KS -- As the Johnson County Community College baseball team heads into the teeth of postseason play, the Cavaliers already have put together an amazing season, both from a team and individual standpoint.

The Cavaliers have won 43 games, the most under head coach Kent Shelley.
They registered 41 regular season wins, the second highest regular season total the program's history.  Their 43 wins rank eighth nationally, and their .782 winning percentage ranks 11th in the NJCAA.

At the plate, the Cavaliers are hitting an amazing .358 as team, just six points shy of the all-time best average of a Shelley coached team.  Their
.358 average currently ranks ninth in the country.

Individually the Cavaliers are led by sophomore MVP John Lenherr with a batting average of .444.  That ranks 28th in the NJCAA.  Davis Morgan ranks 23rd nationally with 58 RBI and Lenherr and J.P. LaMunyon rank 44th with 22 stolen bases.

On the mound, JCCC has one of the best staffs in the country.  The Cavaliers have a 2.30 earned run average to date which is the best in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference and one of the best in the country for a third consecutive season.

Gage Daniels ranks third nationally with a 1.00 ERA.  He is followed by Nick Holtgreive at No. 11 with a 1.38 ERA, Zach Smith at No. 31 and 1 2.09 ERA, Brandon Droge at No. 43 and a 2.27 ERA and Scott Brady at No. 44 and a 2.30 ERA.

Daniels also ranks 13th in the NJCAA with 80 strikeouts, and Holtgrieve ranks third with 12 saves.  That total is also a new school season record.
