Cavaliers split with Allen County

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College baseball team's string of conference sweeps came to an with a split against Allen County Community College.

The Cavaliers lost the first game, 6-1, but fought back to take the second game 6-3. The Cavaliers now stand 29-6 overall, and 15-3 in the conference.

In the opening game, Allen County jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after a JCCC error, then the Red Devils continued to tack on runs in just about every inning. JCCC hit the ball hard all game but couldn't find any holes in the Red Devils defense. Allen County's pitchers only allowed one run on six hits. John Lenherr and Harrison Gerber provided most of the offense for JCCC, collecting two hits each.

Iin game two, the Cavaliers showed a little more life and used a strong pitching performance from Scott Brady to get back in the win column. The offense again hit the ball hard, only this time the ball found the holes as JCCC put up 11 hits in the game. The offense was led by Lenherr, Sam Stuckey, and Nate Thomas who had multiple hits in the game. On the mound, Brady kept his record perfect at 5-0, pitching five innings of three hit baseball. Nick Holtgrieve finished the last two innings to pick up his ninth save on the year.

JCCC will return to action on Tuesday, April 14, against Coffeyville Community College at 2:00 pm, at Overland Park, KS.
