Cavaliers split with Allen County

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College baseball team, ranked ninth in the NJCAA, dropped its first conference game of the 2009 campaign, falling to Allen County, 10-6. JCCC rebounded in the second game and got the split, downing the Red Devils 6-1.

In the first game, JCCC jumped out early with six runs in the first two innings, and appeared to be on their way to its 14th straight win with All-American lefthander Brandon Droge on the hill. However, the Cavaliers suffered a nightmarish fourth inning. Allen County took advantage of an error, two walks and scratched out seven hits to post a 10 spot on the Cavaliers in the inning.

Drew Mikkelson came in and finally shut down the Red Devils, pitching three scoreless innings in relief.

The Cavaliers got back to the winnings ways in game two, dominating Allen County in phases of the game in a 6-1 victory. Gage Daniels took a no-hitter into the sixth innings before giving up two hits in the innings. He threw his first complete game of the year giving up only one earned run on two hits.

JCCC broke the game open in the fifth inning scoring four runs on four hits.

David Drahozal, John Lenherr, Davis Morgan and Tanner Funk each collected two hits which proved to be enough to power the Cavaliers to their 21st victory on the season.

JCCC, now 21-4 overall and 7-1 in conference play, will face Coffeyville Community College on Tuesday, March 24th.
