JCCC sweeps Ellsworth in three-game series
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College baseball team, registered a three-game sweep over Ellsworth Community College, winning by the scores of 11-1, 7-4 and 18-12
In the opener, the Cavaliers ended the game in the sixth inning on one of John Lenherr¹s three hits in the contest. His third hit punched across JCCC¹s 11th run to enforce the mercy rule and end the game.
Zach Smith led the way on the mound, going five innings, allowing only one unearned run and two hits. Two Iowa natives, Nate Thomas and David Drahozal, collected two hits in the game and each had an RBI.
Scott Brady earned the victory in the second game for JCCC, holding Ellsworth to two runs in his six innings on the hill. His effort was greatly needed because the Cavaliers bats did not produce much offense until the sixth innings.
Lenherr again led JCCC¹s offense as he pounded out three more hits.
Harrison Gerber and Tanner Funk both chipped in two hits. Funk also drove in three of the Cavaliers seven runs.
Nick Holgtrieve was credited with his fourth save of the season as he shut down Ellsworth in the seventh.
The Cavaliers completed the three-game sweep on Saturday in a nine inning game. J.P LaMunyon led the Cavaliers attack with three RBI on four hits, including a home run. Davis Morgan joined LaMunyon with a homer and three RBI, and each JCCC hitter collected at least one hit in the 18-12 victory.
JCCC¹s six run eighth innings secured the win.
Ben Runyon recorded the win with three scoreless innings of relief.
