Last summer, Spilker played for American Legion Post 596, where he led the district with a .457 batting average, and was second in the district with 11 home runs. During his junior year at Raytown High School, Spilker hit .403 with 10 doubles.
"Vince is a big, strong kid who will bring in much needed power to our line-up in 2010." JCCC head coach Kent Shelley said.
Spilker is also considered one of the top pitching prospects in the country. He appeared on the radar after being invited to play for the Kansas City Royals scout team in Jupiter, Fla. A relatively unknown prospect, Spilker came to the forefront in one of the biggest tournaments of the year. In Jupiter, Spilker pitched 90-92 mph while showing flashes of an outstanding change up. Add his size, relatively fresh arm, and his athletic ability, and you get the No. 2 ranked prospect in Missouri, and No. 113 ranked prospect in the country by PG Cross Checker.
"We are extremely pleased with Vince's decision to become a Cavalier." Shelley said. "Vince is regarded as one of the top pitching prospects in the country, and will make an immediate impact in the Jayhawk Conference. He will develop in time into a top professional prospect with continued development on the mound. Vince is an outstanding young man with a burning desire and passion to become the best at his trade."
